Willie Mitchell Jr. Life Reflections
Willie Mitchell, Jr. resided in Pineville, South Carolina. He was born on January 20, 1946, to the late Willie Mitchell and Lucinda Ravenell. He departed his earthly home on November 7, 2023.
Willie attended the public schools in Berkeley County. He was a member of the Central High School class of 1964. A man of many talents, Willie worked for Santee Cooper before landing at Georgia Pacific in 1962 and remained there until he retired in 2002.
Willie was instrumental as a community activist, especially with voting in the rural community, economic development, and improving the Eadytown community. To that end, he spent countless hours as one of the Eadytown Volunteer Fire Department organizers. Upon retirement, he was also a Berkeley Dorchester County Community Action Agency board member, later named Berkeley-Dorchester County Economic Development Board. Finally, he served as Chairman of the Board in early 2000.
Willie accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Greenland Baptist Church. A faithful and devoted member, he was ordained as a Deacon in November 1979. During his tenure as a Deacon, he served many members. He also served as Chairman of the Deacon and Trustee Board of Greenland Baptist Church.
Willie was married to the love of his life, Shirley Jefferson Mitchell, for 45 beautiful years. She preceded him in death. To this union, they were blessed with four children.
Willie was a loving man who cared deeply for his family and friends. He was known as a very sharp dresser, always in a suit boasting a big smile. He also had an affinity for cars, traveling, and always visiting his children/grandchildren to show unwavering love and support.
For 12 years, he has enjoyed life with an exceptional lady friend, Patricia G. Parker. She was a close friend, confidant, and traveling companion. We would like to thank her family for their love for him. They affectionately called him “Mitch”.
Left to cherish his incredible legacy and many fond and loving memories are his loving children: Darryl (Tammy) Mitchell of Waldorf, MD, Anthony (Clarissa) Mitchell of Snellville, GA, Nicole Mitchell of Columbia, SC, Harvey (Shakira) Mitchell of Frisco, TX, and Nathan L.
