William Sinclair Willis' Life Reflections

William Sinclair Willis, the son of the late Jesse Willis and Lucille Simmons Willis, was born on November 24, 1929, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina.

Sinclair attended the schools of Dorchester County and was a graduate of Alston High School. Upon graduation, he served honorably in the United States Army as a Military Policeman.

From a young age, Sinclair accepted Christ as his Personal Savior. He was a faithful, dedicated member of Greater St. James AME Church, where he served in many capacities, including The Trustee Board and Church Leader.

On October 21, 1957, Sinclair was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of his life, Carolyn Fields. To this union, six children were born.

Throughout his adult life, Sinclair was recognized as one of the finest brick masons in the Carolinas, earning the respect and admiration of his peers and clients alike. In 1969, he took a bold step into entrepreneurship by co-founding Willis & Jennings Masonry with his partner, Ralph Jennings. Under their leadership, the business flourished and became a cornerstone of the community for over 27 years. Sinclair dedicated his life to his craft and impacted many through his work.

On May 25, 1968, he became a member of New Eden Lodge #329, Free and Accepted Masons, Prince Hall Affiliated, Summerville, SC where he served faithfully. He was also a member of George A. McGuire Chapter #48, Holy Royal Arch Masons, PHA.

‘Buddy Boy’ as he was affectionately known, was a man of Honor and Integrity. His devotion to The Lord was a central pillar of his life. He was a servant, mentor, and friend to many.

Sinclair was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn, of 64 years, his parents, and two siblings; Herbert Willis, and Samuel Willis.

Those left to cherish his memories are four sons: Gregory Willis, Carl Willis (Roberta), Artie Willis, and Kevin Willis (Denitque); two daughters: Gentry Willis and Margie Willis; eleven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; two sisters: Jessie Moore (the late Willie Moore) and Viola Aiken (Charles),  caregiver: Lynn Gerken, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
