Mrs. Virgie Lee James departed this life on Wednesday, April 15, 2020. She was born in Holly Hill, South Carolina on October 10, 1950 to the late Mack and Jannie Morant.
Virgie Lee connected with God at an early age and was a faithful member of Greater Target A.M.E. Church where she also served as a class leader.
She attended the public schools of Orangeburg School District Three and was a graduate of Roberts High School, Class of 1969. She retired in 2013 from Orangeburg County Consolidated School District Three.
On August 22, 1971, she was joined in holy matrimony to Curtis James, Jr. of Holly Hill. To this union, they were blessed with two children, Dedra and Alonzo. Virgie Lee was preceded in death by her sister, Jeanette Morant.
Virgie Lee was vibrant and full of life. She was a missionary for her community where she assisted whenever services were needed. She provided meals, transportation, comfort and support to those who needed it. She was a loyal friend and an unselfish kindhearted person. She was most of all a loving and devoted wife and mother. Virgie Lee was always the life of the party at family and social gatherings. She had to get her dancemoves in before leaving every event. She was generous and always wanting to help others. All the children in her community loved her because she always had snacks and gave them candy from her famous candy station. Her hobbies were cooking, shopping, decorating, and talking to her family and friends.
Virgie Lee will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her fond memories will live on in the hearts of her devoted husband, Curtis of the home, her daughter, Dedra Felder of Orangeburg, SC, her son, Alonzo (Laura) James of Holly Hill, SC; her brothers, Dr. Mack B. Morant of St. George, SC, Percy (Maxine) Morant of Columbia, SC and Joseph Morant of Holly Hill, SC; her sisters, Dr. Gloria (Irby) James of Holly Hill, SC and Sharron (Daniel) Garland of Summerville, SC; her grandsons, Samuel Felder, II, Darius James, Deion James and Zachary Felder; her brothers- in- law, Henry (Deloris) James of Spartanburg, SC, and Leroy (Valara) James of Harleyville, SC; her sisters- in- law, Marguerite (James) Harris of Holly Hill, SC and Sandra (Kenneth) Mack of Orangeburg, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
