On Sunday, May 13, 2018, heaven gained one more angel when Bro. Thurman Walker departed this life to be with the Lord.
Thurman was born on September 11, 1941 in Orangeburg County. He was the oldest child of the late Mr. Cain (C.W.) Walker and Mrs. Carrie Lee Bellinger Walker.
Thurman was educated in the public schools in Holly Hill, SC. As a young man he began working and proved to be a valuable employee. A total of 37 years of employment including 30 years at Holly Hill Lumber Company (Georgia Pacific) ending at Stone Container Industries until his health declined.
He enjoyed repairing lawn mowers and other small engines. He also enjoyed fishing and was a dedicated player with the Holly Hill Horseshoe Team.
At an early age he became a member of the Greater Target A.M.E. Church where he served faithfully as a Trustee and Meals On Wheels until his health failed.
Thurman was formerly married to Josephine Davis Walker and to this union, three children were born. One son, Anthony Walker, preceded him in death and one sister, Naomi Walker also preceded him in death.
Thurman leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Carrie (Anthony) Dubose of Santee, SC and Sandra Walker of Holly Hill, SC; four sisters, Barbara Young, Elizabeth (Victor) Gilliard, and Laura (Adam) Doctor of Holly Hill, SC and Frances (Ted) Council of Eutawville, SC; five brothers, Tommie Lee (Doretha) Walker, Johnnie Lee Walker, Cain (Beatrice) Walker, and Eugene Walker of Holly Hill, SC, and Willie Allen Walker of Eutawville, SC; four grandchildren, Leevonya Walker, Ashley Walker, Brittney Dubose, and Whitney Dubose; one great grandchild, Alexander Thomas; one aunt, Mary Johnson of Holly Hill, SC; one uncle, William (Mildred) Bellinger of Miami, FL; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harry (Gladys) Davis of Capital Heights, MD, Samuel (Darnette) Brown of Maryland, Minnie Goldberg of New Jersey, Elizabeth (Aubrey) Gregory of New Jersey, Sally Guess of Pinewood, SC, Louise Snider of Santee, SC, and Linda Raysor of Summerton, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
