It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ms. Thelma L. Jones, 77, of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, who transitioned on Monday, February 05, 2024. Please adhere to all COVID-19 precautions and guidelines when visiting the family and funeral home. Masks are NOT required but encouraged when visiting the family and funeral home.
Thelma L. Jones Life Reflections
Thelma L. Jones of Moncks Corner, South Carolina passed away on February 5, 2024, at the age of 77 she was born on April 11, 1946, in Cross, South Carolina to Emma B Jones and Benjamin Jones.
She graduated from Central High School in 1965, where she was an active basketball player following her older sister Bennie D. Jones's footsteps, loving the sport.
At a tender age, she joined Immanuel R.E. Church where she praised and served her Lord as a dedicated member until she moved up North to New Jersey.
In her early adult life, Thelma furthered her education by attending and working at Essex County College located in Newark, NJ before returning to Cross to take care of her mother.
As we can see, Thelma was a caretaker all her life when her eldest sister fell ill, she stepped in to assist in taking care of a few of her children without hesitation. Thelma raised Aaminah (Pam) whom she calls her daughter, Edward, Antoinette, her great-nephew, Carvel, the apple of her eye she calls her son and later her great-grandnephew, Quasim, her heart, who she calls her grandson. Thelma may not have biological children, but she raised her nieces and nephews as if they were her own!
She is known for the LOVE of fishing, gardening, cooking delicious home-cooked meals, and eating her boiled peanuts.
Thelma worked at Santee Cooper for several years and after completing her time there, she decided to move over to Lieber Correctional Institution and Reentry Center in Ridgeville, South Carolina as a correction officer until her retirement.
Thelma is preceded in death by: her mother, Emma, B Jones; father, Benjamin Jones; sisters, Catherine “Lil Gal” Bennett and Dorothy Felton; brother, Leon “Squeak” Jones; nephew, William Bennett; nieces, Denise Bennett and Carol Felton; and long life "Best Friend," Justine Smalls.
She is survived by: her sisters, Evelyn Jenkins (Robert) and Bennie Dean Jones; uncle, Leroy “Levy” Bennett (Sarah); long-life partner, Leroy Mack Jr. “Mack”; nieces: Aaminah “Pam” Ali, Antionette Bennett, Geraldine Harris, (Bruce) Jacqueline Felton, Alicia Felton, Valerie Jenkins, Jennifer Jones-Grant, Janet Middleton-Richburg (Dale); nephews; Jeffrey Bennett, Edward Bennett (Walaa), Rickey Jenkins, Robert Jenkins, Darrell Jenkins (Diandra), Todd B. Ravenell (Loleta), and Chinua Jones (Chanda); Godson, Keenu Hale; a host of great-nieces and nephews, great-grandnieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
