Susan (affectionally known as Mother, Sue, Suzanne, Auntie Sue, Momma Sue, or Sister Sue). the daughter of the late Stephney Davis and Henrietta Washington Davis was born in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, on July 13, 1955. On October 14, 2023, Susan's earthly voyage reached its peaceful conclusion at Care One Rehabilitation in Teaneck, New Jersey.
At an early age, Sue was baptized and became a member of Springfield Baptist Church in Eutawville, South Carolina. She later became a member of Second Providence Baptist Church in Harlem, New York, and Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Englewood, New Jersey.
She attended public schools in Orangeburg County and graduated with the Roberts High School Class of 1973. After high school, Sue moved to New York City where she started a career in customer service. After several years, she moved back to South Carolina to assist with the care of her parents. In 2005, Sue moved to New Jersey where she held multiple jobs as a custodian and lunch attendant for the Bogota School District and she later worked as a custodian for Mowatt Inc. She ended her career working with Neighbours-Inc, as a devoted direct support professional supporting Tyrone Lowers who preceded her in death
After retirement, Sue enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City, Maryland, and Pennsylvania with her family. She also enjoyed her month-long vacations in South Carolina with her grandchildren; sitting outside on the balcony drinking her coffee and feeding the birds; watching her soap operas and also her favorite teams the New York Yankees and the University of Alabama College football.
Sue loved all of her siblings. She is preceded in death by two sisters, Earnestine and Claire; four brothers, Isaac, Aaron, Jerome, and Nathaniel and two brothers-in-law: Rufus Gethers and Moses Mitchum.
As we bid her farewell, we hold onto the cherished memories of her life. Sue's spirit lives on through the lives she touched: her phenomenal three children, Candacia Davis of Hackensack, New Jersey, Darrel Davis of Clifton, New Jersey, and Shakeia (Deion) Davis-Simmons of Eutawville, SouthCarolina, and adopted daughter, Paula Byers of Hackensack, New Jersey; her beautiful grandchildren, Tai'jea, Janiya, Nariah, and Nasir Davis; two sisters, Minnie Davis (Charles) of Eutawville, South Carolina, and Louise Mitchum of Englewood, New Jersey; four brothers, Jacob Davis of Tampa, Florida, William Davis of Edison, New Jersey, Hazel (Eloise) Davis of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Curtis White of Cross, South Carolina, and a nephew raised as a brother, Moses Gathers of Holly Hil, South Carolina; four sisters-in-law, Carris Davis, Mabel Davis, Loretta Davis, and Bridget Gass; one uncle, Paul J. Washington, one aunt, Rachel Lee, a host of other wonderful nieces, nephews, other relatives and three special friends, Nema Washington, Martha Geathers, and Rebecca Washington.
In her passing, we remember not only the challenges she faced but also the strength she embodied. Sue's legacy serves as a reminder that, even in the midst of darkness, the light of family and unwavering support can guide us through. Let us celebrate Sue's life, her triumphs, and her invincible spirit that will forever remain engraved in our hearts.
May she find eternal peace in the embrace of her Heavenly Father, reunited with her parents and loved ones who have gone before her. Rest in peace, dear Susan Davis.
Best Regards!
