Obituary

Mrs. Shelly Ruth Jamison, 66, transitioned on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Trident Medical Center, North Charleston, South Carolina.  Shelly was born in Holly Hill, S.C., on September 1, 1955.  She was the daughter of the late Henry and Alean Avinger, Sr.  Shelly attended the Orangeburg County Public Schools and was a 1973 graduate of Roberts High School.  Shelly later graduated from South Carolina State College in 1996 with a degree in Family & Consumer Science. 

She was employed by the Orangeburg School District number Three for 36 years and later went on to retire in 2014.  Since retiring Shelly became a dedicated substitute for this same school district from 2014, up until recently.

Shelly joined Liberty Hill Baptist Church at a young age and served faithfully until she was hospitalized.  She served in many auxiliaries in the church.  She was a long-term member of the usher board.  She was a member of the Young Adult and Inspirational choir.  She served as a member of the Missionary Board and the 60 plus.  Shelly, also, has been an active member of the LaVogue Social Club.

Shelly got a lot of joy from singing, directing weddings, facilitating pageants, decorating, and spending time entertaining family and friends.  

Shelly was married to the late Alfred "Kimbo" Jamison and to this union 3 children were born.  Shelly loved her children and grandchildren and had a special way of making them feel special.  

Those left to cherish her memories are her children:  Samuel (Wendy) Snell of Raleigh, North Carolina; Felicia Jamison-Cheeks of Savannah, GA; Antoine (Delisha) Jamison of Massachusetts; Farrell Felder of Orangeburg, S.C. and JLaron Jamison of Eutawville, S.C.; 21 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; all 12 of her siblings:  Nathlien Williams, Henry Avinger, Jr., Linda (Joseph) Smith, Becky Avinger, Franklin (Tiawanna) Avinger and Gwendolyn Avinger all of Massachusetts, Ella Avinger of Long Island, New York, Thomas Avinger of Florida,  Judy Wright of Vance, South Carolina, James (Mabel) Avinger) & Clareatha (Mark) Kearse both of Holly Hill, S.C. and Catherine (Carl) Stephens of Bowman, S.C.; her sister-in-laws  Ruthie Goodwin of Holly Hill, S.C.; Vernelle (James) Alston of Columbia, S.C.; Pam (Tommie) Walker of Holly Hill, S.C. and Rosena (Leroy) West of Orangeburg, S.C., a very close friends Ms. Janie of and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.
