Rev. Paul Saul Gathers

Reverend Paul Saul Gathers, was born on April 10, 1924, to the late Eddie and Mary Gathers-Smith. He transitioned on Monday, February 23, 2023, at Tallwoods Nursing Home (Bayville, NJ)

He grew up in Eutawville, SC, and attended the school on Walnut Grove Plantation. At an early age, Rev. Gathers joined the Silas United Methodist Church in Eutawville and later moved his membership to St. Matthews Methodist Church.

Rev. Gathers joined in marriage to, his sweetheart, the late Eliza Halls-Gathers in 1945. They were blessed with three children and with their love for children also raised four additional children, of which three preceded him in death- Samuel Gathers, George Halls, and Mattie Ruth Halls.

Rev. Gathers loved to pray and sing. He sang with the Goldentone Singers under the leadership of the late Ernest (son) Taste. They traveled to many places to sing, New York and Boston to name a few.

In 1981, Rev. Gathers met and married the late Maggie Wigfall.

Rev. Gathers retired from the State of South Carolina Motor Vehicle Department and the Dumpster.

Rev. Gathers was well known in the community with goodies on his truck especially candy, peanuts, fruits, and more.

Rev. Gathers leaves to cherish his loving memories: a son, Bobby (Minnie) Gathers of Santee, S.C.; daughters, Eunice (Williard ) Jordan of Goose Creek, S.C.; Martha Halls of Irvington, N.J.; Adell Halls-David of Toms River, N.J.; a daughter-in-law, Janie Halls of Bayonne, N.J.; one brother, Peter Gathers of Eutawville, S.C.; (21) Grandchildren, (23) Great-Grandchildren, (3) Great-Great Grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Please adhere to all COVID-19 precautions and guidelines when visiting the family and funeral home.  Masks are required.
