Paul Jesse Washington Sr. Life Reflections

Paul Jesse Washington, Sr. a beloved family patriarch, devoted friend, and pillar of the community, entered eternal rest on Monday, January 20, 2025.  At the age of 90, Paul leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that will endure in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

Born on May 26, 1934, to the late Isaac and Minnie Washington, Paul was the youngest of 12 children.  He was a role model to many, known for his unwavering dedication to his family, faith, and work. He worked at Holcim Cement for 30 years with a perfect attendance record, never missing a day or arriving late—a testament to his remarkable discipline and work ethic.

A true steward of the land, Paul found joy in farming and took immense pride in sharing the fruits of his labor with neighbors and friends throughout the community. His generosity and kind spirit were felt far and wide, as he sought to care for others with the same love and attention he poured into his own family.

Paul was a dedicated life-long member of St. James-Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member of the Senior Choir and Missionary Society.  He was a founding member of the Male Chorus.  He was also a member of the Gospel Travelers. Singing for the Lord was Paul’s cherished ministry, and his heartfelt songs brought comfort and inspiration to countless souls. His love for the Lord was evident in every note he sang, and his faith served as a beacon of hope and encouragement for all who knew him.

He was deeply involved in his community and dedicated countless hours to organizations that reflected his passions and values. Paul was a life member of the Eutawville Branch of the NAACP.  He was a proud member of the MWPHGLSC Eutawville Lodge # 402 for over 60 years. Paul was awarded the title of Honorary Past Master in recognition of his many years of dedicated service. Paul was honored as the 2nd Masonic District Mason of the Year in 1997. He was a former member of the Royal Arch BEJ Chapter 57. Paul was also a member of Fishers of Men.  He believed in the power of community and service, and his involvement with these organizations brought him great joy and fulfillment. He formed lifelong friendships and made an enduring impact through his dedication to these causes.

Paul was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend who touched the lives of many through his wisdom, compassion, and unwavering support. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he so faithfully served.  Paul was joined in holy matrimony to the late Jessie Mae Hampton Washington.  They were blessed with 7 loving and devoted children.  One son, George Washington, Sr. preceded him in death.

He is survived by his children Mildred (Tracy) Jenkins of Union, NJ, Helen (Larry Sr.) Prioleau of Cross, SC, Patty (Rev. Roy Lee Sr.) Durant of Vance, SC, Paul (Pearline) Washington Jr. and Michael (Christina) Washington both of Holly Hill, SC, Andrea Washington of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Virgina Bryant of Eutawville, SC; one grandson reared in the home, Tywain (Veronica) Washington; three sisters-in-law, Beatrice Mitchum of Jersey City, NJ, Queenie Hampton of Greensboro, NC, and Clara Hampton of Pineville, SC; one brother-in-law, James Davis of East Orange, NJ; thirty-one grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. A special thank you to the Amedisys team, whose compassion and support brought comfort to Paul and the family.

Paul’s legacy of faith, love, and selflessness will live on in the lives of those he touched. As we mourn his passing, we celebrate the beautiful life he lived and the profound impact he had on us all.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:23)

As Paul always said “YOU BETTER BE THANKFUL!”
