Nellie Estelle Davis Obituary
Nellie Estelle Davis, born on June 25, 1941, in Eutawville, South Carolina, was the beloved youngest child of Julia and Sharlow Broughton Sr. She was raised in a home filled with love as the youngest of fifteen children. From an early age, Nellie embraced her faith in Christ, joining Unity Baptist Church and living a life guided by devotion and compassion.
A proud graduate of Roberts High School, Class of 1962, Nellie’s life was one of unwavering commitment and service. She shared a profound and lasting love with her husband, Harry “Jervey” Davis, with whom she was united in Holy Matrimony for 61 years. Together, they were blessed with four children—Harry P. (Catherine) Davis, Victor M. Davis, Elaine Davis, and Dewayne (LaTesha) Davis. Her legacy lives on through her seven grandchildren—Zipporah, Olivia, Ashley, Maurice, Delquan, Linnea, and Eron—whom she adored and affectionately called her “grandbabies.”
Nellie was a dedicated and faithful member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a Deaconess and was actively involved in various ministries. Her passion for serving others was evident in everything she did, and her kindness touched the hearts of all who knew her. Whether it was through her church, her family, or her community, Nellie gave tirelessly of herself, always with a smile and an open heart.
Her family and friends will remember her for her unwavering love, her deep faith, and the warmth she brought to every room she entered. Nellie’s laughter, her spirit of generosity, and her strength in the face of adversity left a lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, Julia and Sharlow Broughton Sr.; her sisters, Mary Lee Bryant, Catherine Middleton, and Lucille Wright; and her brothers, Ernest Broughton, Harrison Broughton, Lawrence Broughton, Henry Broughton, Lander Broughton, and Sharlow Broughton Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Harry J. Davis, their four children: Harry P. (Catherine) Davis, Victor M. Davis, Elaine Davis, and Dewayne (LaTesha) Davis; her seven grandchildren: Zipporah, Olivia, Ashley, Maurice, Delquan, Linnea, and Eron; her beloved sister, Sarah (William) Barbour, and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who were blessed to know her love and care.
Nellie’s life was a beautiful example of faith, love, and service. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her. May she rest in peace.
