Minnie Skinner Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ms. Minnie Lee Skinner, 76, of Vance, South Carolina, who transitioned on Sunday, January 14, 2024.  The family will be receiving family and friends at her residence: 140 Gaines Court, Vance, South Carolina from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM daily. Please adhere to all COVID-19 precautions and guidelines when visiting the family and funeral home. Masks are NOT required but encouraged when visiting the family and funeral home.


Minnie Skinner's Life Reflections

Minnie Lee Goodwin Skinner was born on November 12, 1947, in Holly Hill SC, the eldest daughter of the late John Goodwin and Gladys Davis Goodwin.

Minnie was educated in the public school in Orangeburg County. She graduated from Robert High School in 1966. While in high school she was in The Marching Band. After graduation from High School, she attended nursing school in New York.

She was married to the late James Skinner Jr. and to this union, two children were born.

Minnie accepted Christ at an early age and joined Rock Hill A.M.E. Church where she was a very active member. She worked diligently and faithfully in the following capacities: Orangeburg County School Board, Lake Marion Booster Club, Torch Lighter of the AME Church, Life Member, Local WMS President, Orangeburg Area Parliamentary, President I Pringle Choir, Director of Rock Hill AME Church Day Care, Eastern Star Past Worthy Matron, Women of Grace Senior Organization Orangeburg District Area Chairperson WMS, 1st Vice President WMS Orangeburg District, Class President of 1966, Rock Hill AME Stewardess Board, Secretary of the Orangeburg District Lay Organization, Voter’s Registration, Concerned Citizens, and Steward.

Her kindness, generosity, diligence, and efficiency in all her duties were admired in everything she did. Minnie lived an interesting and fulfilling life. The sparkle in her eyes was her sons and grandchildren. She devoted her life to serving Christ by serving others with love and dedication.

Memories of Minnie will forever be remembered and cherished by: her loving children, James Skinner of Atlanta, GA, and Jeffrey (Kimberly) Skinner of Orangeburg, SC; ten grandchildren, Matthew Wolf, James Skinner IV, Kesha Kerm, Andrea Flores, Jeffrey Skinner II, Jamaree Skinner, Jayden Skinner, LaLiecha Gaines, Tierra Skinner, and LaShawn White; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence (Sheila) Goodwin of Santee, SC and John (Connie) Goodwin of Vance, SC; four sisters, Lula Snell of Vance, SC, Shirley Frederick of Bowman, SC, Jeanette (Vinson) McNeal, and Vernetta (Frederick) Brown both of Orangeburg, SC; a special sister & brother, Mary E. Hillard & Herman Shaw; aunts, Sarah Summers, Neatha Mae Goodwin, and Mary Lee Goodwin; two Godchildren, Julena Snell  and Alberto Asbury; special friends, Kittie Asbury and Mariah Gadson; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
