It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Maybelle Groom Berry, 97, formerly of Miami, Florida, transitioned on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at her residence in Cordova, South Carolina. Please adhere to all COVID-19 precautions and guidelines when visiting the family. Masks are not required but encouraged when visiting the funeral home.
Maybelle Groom Berry Life Reflections

Maybelle Groom Berry the beloved daughter of the late William Morty and Lizzie Brown, was born in Holly Hill, South Carolina on May 5, 1926. She later married the late Levy Berry in Holly Hill, South Carolina. She received her education in Orangeburg County schools and furthered her education in Miami, Florida at the Nightingale Practical School of Nursing. At an early age she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, at Greater Target Baptist Church in Holly Hill, South Carolina.
Maybelle retired from the University of Miami with 33 years of service and retired from the St. Albans Daycare Nursery as a childcare worker with 10 years of service.
After leaving South Carolina, Mrs. Berry and her husband united with Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, of Coconut Grove, under the late Reverend Dr. J.A. F. Finlayson. Later under the leadership of Reverend Rudolph Daniels, she joined the Missionary Society Red Circle #4, and she was a honorary member of Richmond Heights, Florida, Christmas Club.
Her hobbies were working outside in her vegetable garden and planting flowers, if she was not traveling. She enjoyed singing and playing the piano and working with the kitchen ministry to help raise funds to support the Youth Department.
Moms’ life transitioned on Thursday morning, December 21, 2023. The beauty of her aroma will last forever in the hearts of her children: four sons: Leroy, William (Willie Mae), Emory (preceded her in death), Casper (Marolin), and Vernell (Roslyn): two daughters: Carol (Frank) Hall and Mary Bradley.
She had twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren, twelve great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Berry had 6 siblings that proceeded her in death: Ethel McQueen, Queenie Brown, Sophornia Allen, Leola Sinkler, Roosevelt “Bill” Brown, and Virgil William Brown. and a host of other relatives and friends.
