Mattie Mae Brown Life Reflections
We are here today in memory of Mattie M. Brown so that together we may acknowledge and share both our joy and the gift that her life was to us and the pain that her passing brought. May we lessen the pain by remembering the joy and laughter she gave to us.
On Wednesday, December 18, Mattie Brown (Newna) answered the call to her eternal home with the Lord. Mattie was born June 11, 1942, the only child to Azalee “Mrs. Tina” and Lawrence “Tippy” Williams.
Mattie attended Holly Hill public schools and Lovely Hill Baptist Church until she moved to New York and started her career as a United States Postal Service employee at Morgan Station one of the largest U.S. Postal processing and distribution centers in the United States from 1964 to 1999 when she retired.
Mattie attended Zion Hope Baptist Church in Bronx, New York where she became a Deaconess on the Board of Trustees and the choir.
After retiring Mattie moved back to Holly Hill, South Carolina and enjoyed her retirement with family and friends.
Mattie continued her membership at Lovely Hill Baptist Church where she served in several organizations. She served several years as president of the Missionary Ministry, Trustee Ministry, Hospitality Board #4, Music Board Ministry, Golden Delight Committee, choir member, and her most joyful service was being a children's Sunday school teacher. She also remained a member of the Postal Teamsters Union.
Mattie loved being of service to others, very outgoing and a people person.
Mattie was preceded in death by her parents Azalee “Mrs. Tina” and Lawrence “Tippy” Williams; her son, Lawrence “Rob” Williams; her husband, Kenneth Brown; and several other family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her legacy: her son, Richard “Pete” Williams of Katy, Texas; daughter, Cherise Yvette Thompson-Pittman (Randy) of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; granddaughters, Shelisa Williams of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Antonia Tillman of England, UK; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two aunts, Ola White and Annie Ottley; two half-sisters, Linda Brown and Daisy Anderson; and several other family and friends.
Her memory will forever live in our hearts, and we will cherish her memory forever.
