Martha Lee Smith Pinckney Life Reflections
Martha Lee Smith Pinckney was born on March 2, 1937, in Eutawville, South Carolina, to the late Joe Smith and Hester Fuller Smith. She transitioned from labor to reward on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, in Tannersville, Pennsylvania.
Martha was educated in the public schools of Orangeburg County. She graduated from Roberts High School in 1956 and migrated to New York City. It was here that she met Edward Pinckney Sr. and was united in Holy Matrimony on June 21, 1958. This union was blessed with four children, Veronica, Edward Jr., Stanley, and Felicia.
Martha worked as a Public Health Assistant, excelling as a Nurse’s Aide in various hospital and health clinic settings. She retired after 23 years of service with the New York City Department of Health. After living in New York for almost 40 years, Martha and her husband returned to their home of South Carolina.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sr.; children, Edward Jr. and Felicia Pinckney; and a special niece, Lourine Anderson Brown.
Those who will cherish her sweet memories are: her children, Veronica (Wardell) McCutchen of Tannersville, PA and Stanley (Sharon) Pinckney of Catonsville, MD; daughter-in-love, Shirley Pinckney of Randallstown, MD; grandchildren, Stanley Jr., Delvert, Christopher, Yvette, Stacey, Kayla, Dana, Eric, Wardell Thomas, Jordan, and Jessica; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lula Myers of Eutawville, SC and Carrie Annette Wiggins of Bronx, NY; sisters-in-love, Ella Mack, Jeannette Pinckney, Hattie Smith, Doris Alice Brown, Hannah (Jerome) Smalls, Albertha Evans, Delores Smith, Loretta Brown, and Everlena (Kelvin) Jefferson; brothers-in-love, Willie (Diane) Brown, Joe (Nellie) Footman, Charlie Brown, and Rev. Richard (Betty) Brown; a special cousin and best friend, Annie Bell Jackson; a host of dear nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
