Mrs. Lula M. Gaillard, 81, Columbia, South Carolina, transitioned on Sunday, August 7th, 2022, at her residence, surrounded by her loving and caring family. Lula Mae Miller arrived in the world May 15th, 1941, in Eutawville, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Ethel Bryant and Theodore Howell. She departed from the world August 7th, 2022. Lula attended the local county public schools where she met her childhood sweetheart Harry. At seventeen, Lula moved and settled in New York City. In 1960, Lula married the love of her life Harry T. Gaillard. They raised four children together. After completion of her degree from Touro Vocational College, Lula held numerous jobs. Notably, she worked as Head Dietician at Judith Glen Nursing Home and later at New York City’s Public School 63. Beyond this, Lula was an avid gardener, passionate home decorator, and lover of fashion. Lula was a dedicated mother, homemaker, and caretaker of friends and family. Lula joined Grace Baptist Church in the Bronx, NY, and was faithful in her service with the Deaconess and Missionary Ministries and received numerous awards for her dedicated service. In 2001, Lula returned to the state of her birth to settle in Columbia, SC, with her husband. She joined Zion Chapel Baptist Church No. 1 where she continued her dedication to serve as Deaconess and Missionary. Lula was preceded in death by: Her husband, Harry T Gaillard; her son, Kelvin Gaillard; her brothers and sisters: Mrs. Ethel Lee Chestnut, Mr. Richard Miller, Mr. George Bryant, Mr. Ricky Miller, and Mr. George Miller. Survived by her daughter: Deborah (Herbert) Gaillard-Miller, and sons, Harry Gaillard Junior, Stanley (Felicia) Gaillard; grandchildren, Erika Gaillard, Herbie Miller, Clayton Gaillard, Sean Gaillard, Kimberly Gaillard, Faith (Ching) Gaillard-Wong, Brandon Gaillard, Denia Gaillard, Tyler (Kevin) Gaillard-Lonergan, Hassan Miller, Zhané Gaillard, and Zkara Gaillard; seventeen great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Ms. Dorothy Hazel, Mrs. Mary (Steven) Rivera, Mr. Larry Miller; a goddaughter, Leneice Atkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
