Lakasha Blanchard Obituary

Ms. Lakasha Tawana Blanchard, 43, of Brooklyn, New York ,departed this life on Saturday, November.14, 2020 at her residence in Brooklyn, New York.

LaKasha Tawana Blanchard was granted her angel wings on November 14, 2020. She was born in New York City on September 13, 1977 eight minutes before her twin sister the late LaTasha Cowana Blanchard and born to the late Isaac T. Blanchard and Vinnie Lee Blanchard.

Tawana received her primary and secondary education in New York City where she was believed to be a child genius. She attended Nassau Community College. She was employed with Fabric Bonanza, PS Pibbs Inc., Bravo Supermarket and the 1 800 Flowers Team Services, Inc.  She enjoyed working and being in the presence of people which brought out the best in her personality.  At an early age her health began to decline and she became disabled, but she did not allow her disability to hinder her from doing anything.  In fact, her disability made her sharper than ever.

Tawana attended her family church in Jersey City Deliverance Temple, under the leadership of Apostle Eugene Stackhouse and Assistant Pastor Ruby Stackhouse. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and it was her desire to please Him; she knew of Him to be the source of her strength. She did as God instructed her to do in Philippians 2:3 “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves”.  All those who knew her would agree, she treated others with unconditional love like that of God her personal Savior. While visiting South Carolina she loved to attend Refuge Temple Church where Elder Harold Young is the Pastor, and First Lady Ruth Young. She fell in love with the members of Refuge Temple Church. Pastor Young knew she was a great talker and he would grant her opportunities to speak.

Tawana was so full of life; smart, meek, outgoing, loving and kind. She was a shopaholic, it gave her great pleasure to share with others just to see a smile on their face, it gave her great joy. She did not have a selfish bone in her body and was such a gentle giant that would give you the very clothes off her back. Whenever, she was in the presence of others she would bring light to any dark room. She loved to talk and would start off encouraging you before you could address her illness. She loved to watch all kind of movies, shows and listen to various types of music, but family was most important to her. She truly followed the commandment to love and honor your mother and father she did so until she departed from this earth. It was her belief that we are to always be available to help each other in good times and bad. Although she bore no children of her own, Tawana believed that her nieces and nephews are her legacy and she provided support to each of them in any way she could.

Tawana will be greatly missed. She was courageous, creative and loyal. Her jokes, wisdom, intelligence, determination, strength and endless hours of conversation will be missed by all who ever spent just a moment with her. While our hearts are in mourning the angels are rejoicing because they gained another soul to enter into Heaven’s gates and she can finally embrace her creator as He tells her, "well done".

Tawana had a loving twin sister LaTasha Cowana Blanchard and her father Isaac T. Blanchard that preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory a loving mother Vinnie Lee: three siblings Vivian, Anthony and Natalie, seven uncles, Talmach, Ernest (Ernestina), Elmore Jr. , Harry, Raymond, Peter (Jocelyn), and Robert; two aunts Lydia and Beatrice; one great uncle Ikie (Loretta), great aunts, Bernice (Leroy) and Patricia; three nieces Kendra, Shaniqua, Latrice, two great nieces Kassidy, Aurianna, three nephews Anthony, Clyde and Dimitri, one great nephew Jayden and a host of cousins and friends.
