Harry Gaillard

June 10, 1940 ~ December 1, 2021 (age 81)


Harry T. Gaillard arrived in the world on June 10, 1940, in Eutawville, SC. He was the son of the late Charlie Gaillard and Eloise Davis Gaillard. He departed the world on December 1, 2021.

Harry attended the local county public schools where he met his childhood sweetheart, Lula. After a brief stop in Florida, Harry moved and settled in New York City. In 1960, Harry married the love of his life, Lula Mae. They raised four children together.

Harry worked numerous jobs in his life including driving #66 Black Pearl Car Service. Most notably, in 1966 he joined New York City's Metropolitan Transit Authority, where he drove city buses for 35 years. During his tenure, he was a member of the Union Local 100 Transport Workers and was awarded numerous times for his safe driving.

Harry joined Grace Baptist Church in Bronx, NY, and was ordained Deacon on April 4, 1989. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board and received numerous awards for his dedicated service.

Harry retired from the MTA in 2001 and soon after returned to the state of his birth to settle in Columbia, SC with his wife. He joined Zion Chapel Baptist Church No.1 where he continued his dedication to serving as Deacon and Chairman of the Board. 

Survived by: Lula Gaillard- wife, Deborah (Herbert) Gaillard-Miller-daughter, Harry Gaillard Junior-son, (late) Kelvin Gaillard- son, and Stanley (Felicia) Gaillard. Grandchildren: Erika Gaillard, Herbie Miller, Clayton Gaillard, Sean Gaillard, Kimberly Gaillard, Faith (Ching) Gaillard-Wong, Brandon Gaillard, Denia Gaillard, Tyler (Kevin) Gaillard-Lonergan, Hassan Miller, Zhane Gaillard, Zkara Gaillard, and fifteen great-grandchildren. Brothers and Sisters: Mrs. Hattie Mae (John) Rock, Mrs. Sussanah Richburg, Mrs. Kitte (George) Asbury, Mrs. Ethel (James) Rowell, Mrs. Dorothy Gaillard, (late) Mrs. Victoria (Kenny) Murray, Mr. Charles Gaillard, Mr. Leroy (Alma) Gaillard, Mr. Joseph (Patricia) Gaillard, Mr. Jerome (Carolyn) Gaillard, Mr. William (Rachel) Gaillard, Mr. John Henry Middleton, Mr. George (Margaret) Middleton and Goddaughter- Leneice Atkins.
