Harrison “Monk” James the son of the late Mr. Edgar and Ethel Lee James was born March 26, 1959 in Eutawville, South Carolina. He entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 12, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.
He grew up in Orangeburg County and attended the public schools there.
Over the years he held many jobs. Monk worked as an employee for a roofing company of Charleston, Mook Jenkins Construction, Tony Jenkins Carpentry, and an aluminum company in Summerville.
Monk enjoyed hunting, fishing, talking trash (especially to Cookie), and sitting on the porch.
He was preceded in death by three siblings: Henry Sumpter, Sarah Bell Simmons, and Eddie James; a niece, Shana James; and a nephew, Raymond James.
He leaves to cherish his memories: two sons, Christopher Davis and Jerome Porter; one daughter, Kristle Porter; four sisters, Carrie (Edward) Simmons, Elouise Wright, Joyce James, and his special baby sister, Lucreshia “Trish Ann” James; three brothers, Edgar (Jannie) James, March (Cathy) James, and Rodney (Danita) James; four aunts, Ruth Montgomery, Mary Smith, Netha Kennedy, and Betsy Mitchell; one uncle, Nathaniel Green; fourteen grandchildren, six special nephews, Eldridge James, March King James, Jr., Tyrone Simmons, Asaa Clinton, DeAndre Yeadon, and Steven Clinton; two special nieces, Angela “Cookie” James and Mattie Gavin; his Saginaw girls, Seamonae Simmons, Precious Simmons, Shante James, Jenea Gavin, and Dominque James; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
