Frederick Rivers Obituary

Mr. Frederick McArthur Rivers, 48, transitioned on Monday, January 17, 2022, at his residence in Marietta, GA.  Frederick is the son of Bettie Ann and John Rivers, of Holly Hill, South Carolina, he was born on March 22, 1973, in Newark, New Jersey. His Christian walk began at an early age when he united with the Rock Hill African Methodist Episcopal Church in Vance, South Carolina. In the Atlanta area, Fred worshiped at Christian Life Center Worldwide. Fred made his heavenly transition on January 17, 2022.

Fred was academically astute. He attended Holly Hill-Roberts High School where he graduated in 1991 in the top 10% of his class. He went on to attend Clark Atlanta University (CAU) and graduated magna cum laude in 1996 with two degrees - a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Always the honor student, Fred remained on the Dean’s List and was a member of Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society. He was also in the Honors Program where he worked as an Office Assistant for 4 years under the strong, but loving tutelage of Ms. Carol Ferguson and Dr. Isabella T. Jenkins, who served as his mother figures while away from home. However, one of his proudest moments at CAU was when he became a member of the Psi Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.

Fred was an avid lover of learning, especially when it came to technology, real estate, and financial matters; and had a vast collection of books to show for it. He often attended training classes on these topics whenever he could. Fred became a licensed real estate agent and dabbled in the stock market and real estate investing.

Fred was passionate about technology. His thriving IT career began at Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals as a Systems Analyst. He then took his talents to UCB Biopharmaceutical as a Senior SAS Programmer and concluded his work in this life at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention as an IT Specialist in the National Center for Environmental group.

Yet, Fred’s greatest accomplishment was his thriving family. During his sophomore year at CAU, he met Michelle Jones. Fred was determined to find and meet the girl who had made straight A’s the previous semester. They were college sweethearts and married in 1995. To this union, three children were born: daughter, Marina Jessica, and sons, Jordan McAuthar and Jonathan McAuthar.

Preceding him in death is his sister, Cynthia Ann Rivers. Fred leaves to mourn his loving wife of 26 years, Michelle Rivers; wonderful and intelligent children, Marina (26), Jordan (22), and Jonathan (20); adoring parents, Bettie Ann and John Rivers. He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and friends who will miss him dearly.
