A Time to be Born
Evelyn Broughton Gillens, the daughter of the late Jake and Mary Etta Broughton was born November 29, 1925. A Time for Every Purpose under Heaven At an early age she committed herself to the Lord and became a member of Unity Baptist Church where she served all her life. She served in many capacities however, her greatest gift of ministry has been to share her love of God through her melodious alto voice as a member of the Senior Choir and the famed “Unity Gospel Singers.”
She was united in holy matrimony to the late George Gillens, II on March 3, 1946. This union was blessed with eleven (11) children. She mastered the art of loving so selflessly and so completely that each of her children remain convinced that he/she is her personal favorite. Her greatest passions in life were her unwavering love of God and an unmatched love for her four generations of children, nieces and nephews, other relatives and her church family.
A Time to Die On
Wednesday, March 10, 2021, Evelyn entered into eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her son John Harold Gillens: siblings: Saul Green, Paul Broughton Wilhmenia B. Larrymoore, Joseph Broughton and Jake Broughton, Jr.
A Time to Mourn
Evelyn leaves to cherish her memories her children: Mary L. (Peter) Simmons, Jacob (Carolyn ) Gillens, George, III (Gerald) Gillens, Nathaniel Gillens, Stanley (Emily) Gillens, Earnest (Gertrude) Gillens, Georgia Gillens, Jonathan (Michelle) Gillens, Stormey (Jenaris) Gillens, Regina Gillens, Loretta (Ronald Williams) Gillens; Thirty three (33) grandchildren, Forty nine (49) great- grandchildren and ten (10) great- great grandchildren; Three sisters in law: Emma Broughton, Elouise Gillens and Avon Gillens,; one brother in law: Wendell Larrymoore and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
