Elsie Rose Wright Life Reflections
Mrs. Elsie Rose Wright, affectionately known as Rose, was born on September 2, 1945, in Pineville, South Carolina, to the late William "Billy" Bowens and Bella Greene. She peacefully transitioned into eternal rest at her home in Cross, South Carolina, on June 18, 2025.
Rose was educated in the Berkeley County public school system and later pursued a career in healthcare. She received her nursing training and certification in Bayonne, New Jersey. Known for her infectious laugh, unwavering optimism, and incredible ability to make everyone feel special, Rose was a light in the lives of all who knew her.
She had a deep love for gardening, cooking, and most of all, spending cherished moments with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Raised in a Christian home, Rose began her spiritual journey at the former Smith Chapel Church, now Mt. Nebo United Methodist in Pineville, SC. As a young adult, she moved to New Jersey, where she was united in holy matrimony to Walter Wright on April 27, 1968. Rose dedicated her life to serving others, working as a Nurse's Assistant and later as a Home Health Nurse. Her nurturing spirit and commitment to patient care left a lasting impact on all she served.
In 2011, Rose returned to her hometown of Cross, South Carolina. She became a dedicated member of Jehovah AME Church under the leadership of Rev. Jonathan Baker. Rose served faithfully on the Pastor's Aide Board, the Senior Usher Board, the Lay Organization, and in the Church Food Pantry. Her devotion was recognized in 2019 when she was honored as Jehovah AME Church's Mother of the Year.
Rose was a loving and devoted mother to her four children. She was preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter, Brooklyn Wright.
Her legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her four beloved children: John (Benetta) Bowens of Virginia Beach, VA; Michael Bowens of California; Raymond (Hazel) Wright of Arizona; and Therasa (Vincent Sr.) Wright-Jeffers, Florida.
She is also survived by one brother-in-law, James Wright, and two sisters-in-law, Evelina Wright Gillard of Ladson, SC, and Gloria J. Wright of Georgia.
Rose's legacy continues through her 14 grandchildren: Kendra Jackson, J'Von Bowens, Paris King, Jonieca Bowens, A'Veon Wright, Brianna Wright, Jade Bowens, J'Layna Bowens, Vincent Jeffers Jr., Jordan Nye, and Skylaar Howell.
She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: J'Ana Bowens, Jett Simms, Ra'Ziyah White, Charlee Bryant, Aeson Woodard, and Quron Scott.
A special nephew, Samuel Wigfall, also held a unique place in her heart.
Her nurturing spirit, loving presence, and unwavering faith will forever live on in the hearts of her family, friends and all who were fortunate to know her.
