Elnora James Obituary

On Saturday, December 5, 2020, God in His awesome and infinite wisdom called his faithful servant, Mother Elnora Ladson James to her heavenly home.  The eldest child and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Capers (Gussie Ladson) Clinton, Sr. and the late Mr. McQueen Murray, Mother Elnora Ladson James was born August 23, 1930 in Vance, South Carolina.  She was also affectionally and lovingly known by and called Pernell, Mother Nora, Matriarch, and Goose.

At an early age, Mother Elnora was baptized and converted at Liberty Hill Baptist Church under the spiritual leadership of the late Reverend W.W. Wine.  While at Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Mother Elnora served in many auxiliaries such as Gospel Choir, Pastor’s Aide Board and supported her Pastor at various revivals and church services within the regional area.  She was a Holy Ghost filled servant of God when many did not know or understand the power of God in her life.  There were many times during services at Liberty Hill Baptist Church that many questioned the Power of God in her life, but she continued to give God all the Glory and she would praise Him “in season and out of season” and had the “burning” of the Holy Ghost even during the time when praise and worship was not popular.  Mother Elnora had a zest for Christian living and exhibited those qualities every day in life.

As Mother Elnora continued to develop her relationship with God, she later joined the Eutawville Holy Deliverance Church under the pastorate and leadership of Reverend Hinson Pooser, Sr., and First Lady and now Pastor, Jannie Mae Pooser.  The Lord truly blessed Mother Elnora under this ministry.  She was a long-time and faithful member of the church and served her pastors with love and humility.  She was a “doer” of the Word of God.  She exemplified holiness everywhere she went – family, community, and home.  Always smiling and giving a word of encouragement, her family and community loved her and called her a blessed virtuous woman.  Mother Elnora was indeed a saved and holy ghost filled Christian used by God to tell the world that Jesus Lives!!!!

At the age of 19, Mother Elnora met her love partner for life, Marion S. James, Sr. As they both continued to court each other, a special love and bond developed and blossomed, and they were married for 47 committed years and blessed with nine (9) loving children.

Mother Elnora Ladson James answered the Master’s call on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, SC, leaving her earthly home to be with the Lord.  Her loving parents, husband, and son, William James; grandsons, Alphonso James and Antonio Singleton and great grandson, Antonio Singleton, Jr. preceded her in death.  She is now rejoicing in Heaven with her sisters, Winnie Jenkins, and Maria Ann Jamison; and brothers, Cato Clinton, William Clinton, Richard Clinton and EY Clinton.

Mother Elnora Ladson James leaves to cherish her memory and to anticipate a glorious reunion according to First Thessalonians 4:16-17, “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord”: two loving and devoted daughters, Albertha Green (Samuel) of Jersey City, NJ and Alfreda James of the home; six dedicated sons who love her dearly, Marvin James (Alicia) of Jersey City, NJ, Rutledge James (Tina) of Knoxville, TN, Eddie James of Santee, SC, Herman James (Londa) of Cheltenham, MD, Everett James (Kimberly) of Eutawville, SC and Daniel James (Catherine) of Clarksville, TN.  Six grandchildren reared in the home by Mother Elnora:  Derrick, Lynette Lakeisha, Monica, Christopher, Ashley, and Jamarion.  Three loving sisters, Willa Mae Prioleau of Vance, SC, Gussie Mae Grant and Alfew Snowden, both of Jersey City, NJ; two caring brothers, Esau Clinton of Charlotte, NC and Alvin Murray of Teaneck, NJ; three sisters-in-law whom she loved dearly, Dorothy Cokley of Holly Hill, SC, Lurine Clinton of Jersey City, NJ, and Mary Pettiford of Winter Park, FL. One caring brother-in-law, William Jamison, Jr. of Vance, SC.  Mother Elnora also leaves grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.  Mother Elnora also leaves memories of a genuine and loving relationship with all her nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and a host of cousins.  She leaves precious memories to the entire Eutawville Holy Deliverance Church Family under Pastor Jannie Mae Pooser as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
