Ellen (Sue) Gibbs Butler, daughter of the late Peter(Jr,) and Ida James Gibbs was born on March 11, 1938 in Eutawville, SC and after a brief illness gained her heavenly wings on 8 February 2021 surrounded by her son(Greg) and granddaughter Shameika.
At an early age, Sue was baptized at St. James, Baptist Church under the pasonage of the late Reverend James Glover, Eutawville, SC. She was educated in the public schools of Orangeburg county and was a 1957 graduate of Roberts High School, Holly Hill SC. After graduating from High School, Sue moved to Bronx, N.Y. where she met and married Willie Butler(deceased) and to this union three children were borne. She was member of the Springfield Baptist Church, Bronx, NY and also served on the Sr. Choir. Sue enjoyed her work as an Assistant Teacher for the New York City Public School system, she retired from the New City Board of Education after over 30 plus years of service. She prided herself on being a fashionista. Sue also enjoyed visiting the Senior Citizens Center and working with arts and crafts. After retirement she relocated back home to Eutawville SC where she reacquainted herself with her childhood church and enjoyed having her daily coffee with her sister, spending time outdoors and raking her yard.
Sue was predeceased by an older brother William Gibbs. She leaves to cherish her fond memories; a son Gregory Butler, daughters Debra and Wanda Butler of Bronx NY, six grandchildren; Shameika, Depierra, Tyree, Precious, Rasheem and Malik; four greatgrands: Diamond, Dominique, Depearl, and Jaysean; sisters, Ella M. Oliver, Eutawville SC and Sallie Gibbs, Goose Greek SC and a nephew raised in the home as a brother Robert(Bobby/Shirley) Gibbs, Mattapan, MA; devoted caregiver/niece Mildred Oliver-Casey, special cousin/friend Ruth Montgomery and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Due to COVID-19, the family will not be accepting guests at their home.
