Ms. Dorothy Ann. Smith (Dot), 64, transitioned from this life on Sunday, June 13, 2021, after a brief illness. She was born June 9, 1957, in Holly Hill, South Carolina to Jannie Lee (Banks) Gillard and the late Willis Gillard, Jr.
Dorothy was educated in the Berkeley County school system attending Poplar Hill Elementary School, Ridgeville, SC., Cross High School, Cross, SC, and later graduated from Denmark Technical School, Denmark, S.C.
Dorothy was united in marriage to the love of her life, Charles E. Smith, on June 2, 1979, and to this union a beautiful daughter, Ashley, was born.
"Dot" was considered the family historian as she had a love for photography. Every event she attended, she always had her camera readily available to capture precious memories which she shared with family and friends.
Dorothy accepted Jehovah early in her life and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on July 2, 1988. She was a good and faithful servant, who loved sharing bible truths with others.
Dorothy was employed at South Carolina State University, Orangeburg, S.C. as a Library Technical Assistant retiring after 28 years of dedicated service.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles E. Smith; Father, Willis Gillard, Jr.; Maternal grandparents, Johnny and Lula D. Banks; and Paternal grandparents, Willis Gillard, Sr., and Lottie Gillard.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Ashley J. Smith, of the home, whom she loved very much; her loving mother, Jannie L. Gillard; Sisters, Wilhelmina Middleton, Jannie Williams and Mary Gillard Hallman, all of Holly Hill, South Carolina; Betty Gillard, Lottie Gillard of New Haven, Connecticut; Brothers, William Gillard, Nathaniel Gillard of Holly Hill, South Carolina; and Kenneth Gillard of Columbia, South Carolina; Uncle, James Banks (Claudia) of Hemingway, South Carolina, and a host nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held via Zoom on June 26, 2021 at 2 P.M.
