Dolores Gibbs Life Reflections
Dolores “Ma” Gibbs was born in Harlem, New York, on February 10, 1945, to James and Isabell Hunter. She departed her earthly home on Monday, April 10, 2023, at MUSC Health of Orangeburg, South Carolina.
Dolores attended PS 68 Elementary School in Harlem, New York, and attended Julia Richmond High School in New York, NY. In 1962 she met and married her loving husband, Paul Sr. of 57 years who preceded her in death. To this union, four children were born, and a daughter, Sylvia preceded them in death.
Dolores was employed at 450 Park Avenue until she retired in 1997. In 1995 she moved to Eutawville, South Carolina.
She was a dedicated member for more than two decades at St. James Missionary Baptist Church where she sang with the Mass Choir and the Voices of Praise. Dolores was a faithful Sunday School scholar and regularly attended Wednesday bible study. She was also a dedicated member of the New Beginning Book Club.
Dolores leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Paul Jr. (Diane) of Middletown, DE, Darren (Lajuan) of New York, NY, and Sharon Salisbury (Allan) of Middletown, NY; one brother, Arnold Hunter of Bronx, NY; one sister-in-law, Sarah of Eutawville, SC; two brothers-in-law, Jacci Gibbs of New York, NY and Elias Gibbs of Charleston, SC; eight grandchildren, Cherrelle, LaQueta, Cristal, Paul III, Andre, Cristian, Sanai, and Celeste; six great-grandchildren, Mekhi, McKenzie, Mia, Honor, Mckhi, and Gavyn; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
