Deacon Jacob Rivers was born March 12, 1936 in Eutawville, SC, to the late Deacon John and Deaconess Rosa Rivers. Deacon Rivers accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized and joined Tabernacle Baptist Church. On December 22, 1962, he was joined in holy wedlock to Deaconess Annie Mae Warley Rivers.
He has been a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church since 1950 and ordained as a deacon in 1963 (56 years). He loved working with his hands and has been a master carpenter for many years. His favorite song is “Jesus Is A Rock” and his favorite scripture is Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd…….”
Those he leaves to cherish his fond memories include his loving and devoted wife of the home Deaconess Annie Mae Rivers, loving daughters Carrie Lee (Frank) Morton, Eutawville, SC; Loretta (Richard) Gadson, Valrico, FL; Katina (Gary) Heyward, Rock Hill, SC; two adopted daughters: DeAndrea Jones, Columbus, OH and Gail (Stanley) Sneed, Long Island, NY; brothers: Robert Rivers, William (Mary) Rivers, James (Bernice) Rivers all of Eutawville, SC, and McArthur (Betty Ann) Rivers, Holly Hill, SC; sisters-in-law, Ollie Rivers, Eutawville, SC, Rev. Mary Ann Nesbit, Annie Ruth Nesbit, and Delcenia Nesbit all of Bronx, NY; brothers-in-law: Willie (Rosa) Warley, Eutawville, SC, Joseph (Geraldine) Nesbit, Paul N. (Mae Donna) Nesbit, all of Cross, SC and Lewis H. (Glenda) Nesbit, Chattanooga, TN; one aunt Alqueen Richardson, Vance, SC; grandchildren Desdein L. Morton, Frank R. Morton, III; Aljandra J. Morton, Raven A. Gadson, Gabrielle K. Heyward, Grace K. Heyward, Gemiyah K. Heyward, Garrison C. Heyward, Dorie Jones, Dwayne Redmond, Patrick Warley, and Onshalay Warley; one great granddaughter Desdanique A. Morton, and one great, great granddaughter Riley S. Brailsford, one godson Paul Matthew Nesbit, Jr; and a host of nieces and nephews, church family members, other family members, and dear friends.
