Carter "Butch" Sweeper Obituary

Born January 11, 1955, in Bamberg, SC, Carter Dewitt Sweeper, affectionately known as "Butch", was the fourth of six children of the late Margaret (Carter) and Rev. Douglas D. Sweeper, Sr., of Eutawville, South Carolina. On June 4, 2022, he entered into eternal rest in his birthplace, Bamberg, SC.

Butch attended Orangeburg County School District 3 public schools and graduated in 1973 from Roberts High School, where he played on the football team and later joined the marching band playing trombone. At an early age, he accepted Christ into his life and joined St. James Baptist Church.

He later attended Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, graduating in 1975. Butch was an avid sports enthusiast and for a brief moment, played semi-pro football in Charleston, South Carolina. His favorite NFL team is the Washington Commanders (formerly the Washington Redskins). He later chose a career in the trucking industry as a driver, where he traveled all over the country.   He remained in trucking until his passing.

Butch was a loving and caring brother that was always there to support his family, no matter how far the distance. Although he never had children of his own, he had a specific love for his nieces and nephews.
