Carson C. Simmons Life Reflections
Carson Clayton Simmons received his wings on December 17, 2024. Clayton, as he was affectionally known, was born on July 19, 1938, to the late Macio Simmons and Mildred Varner Simmons.
Clayton received his education in the Berkeley County School system. After graduation, he became a bus driver for Berkeley County schools until he moved to New York.
At an early age Clayton accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and joined Greater St James A.M.E. Church, Summerville, SC.
Clayton was employed by the New York Sanitation Department and various county positions until he retired. He also worked in various construction jobs.
In 1982 he met the love of his life, Ruth Merricks. They were married in 1983. She preceded him in death in 2015.
In 1986 Clayton moved back to South Carolina to be closer to his parents and sister, all who preceded him in death.
Clayton enjoyed everything outdoors: farming, fishing, building, hunting, and everything in between. He was truly a man's man. He was our very own weather man, always providing the weather forecast. He was a comedian, by his own rights, and he said what he meant and meant what he said.
Clayton leaves to cherish his memory: sisters, Bardinia Zielenski (Kevin) of Colorado Springs, CO and Gwendolyn Varner (Miguel) of Tacoma, WA; granddaughter, Stacy S. Harris of New York; nieces, Stephanie Perry of Hephzibah, GA and Juanita Jordan of Moncks Corner, SC; great grandchildren, Leah and Nasya Harris; grand nephews Antonio Perry and Anthony Jordan; grandniece, Aiesha Perry; and a host of other family and friends.
