Carrie Davis Obituary

Carrie Lee Davis, 90, died unexpectedly April 10, 2020 at her home. She was born July 21, 1929 in Holly Hill, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Rutledge Mack and Julia Jakes. She grew up in Holly Hill and attended school there. Carrie had three brothers, Melvin Mack, Leon Mack, Rutledge Mack Jr and a sister, Delores Goodwin who all preceded her in death. She married Wilbert Davis in 1951 and they moved to Miami, Florida in 1955.  She became a member of St. John AME and served as a Trustee, Secretary of the Usher Board and a Class Leader. 

Carrie received here Nursing Certificate from Miami-Dade College. During her career from 1973-1995, she worked at Mercy Hospital and South Miami Hospital. After retirement she moved back to Holly Hill in 2002 and reunited with her former church, Greater Unity AME, where she has been a member for over 50 years. She was an active member serving in the following capacities: Missionary Society, Secretary of the Usher Board #1, Missionary Board, the 60-Plus Club, Stewardess Board and appointed the Assistant Class Leader of Class #14. She was a faithful Christian woman who loved the Lord. Carrie believed in caring for her family, the Church and others. She liked reading her Bible daily, praying and communicating by phone with those who were shut-in. She also enjoyed cooking and traveling.

She leaves to mourn her husband of 68 years, Wilbert Davis, her daughter, Peggy Davis, Harlingen, TX, sons: Harold Davis(Michelle), Jacksonville, Florida, Wilbert Jerome Davis(Jennifer) Fort Collins, Colorado, Leonard Davis and Patrick Sheldon Davis, Miami, Florida. Willie Mae Daley, Chappelle Capers & Dorothy Clarke who were raised together as siblings, sisters-in-law/brothers-in-law: Minnie Capers, Libby Wright, Lula White (Elliott), Alberta Mack, Paul Wright. Her 10 grandchildren, Travious Davis (Trena), Hans Davis, Kandis Jones (Keith), Hollie Walker (Corey), Jessica Gil (Val), Jeanette Moen (Brian), Anthony Davis (Latedria), Sheena Davis, Shauna Davis, William Davis. Carrie has 19 great grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren. Also, a host of other relatives and sorrowing friends.

Burial will be private and there will be no repass.
