Bobby Gene Young passed from this life on the evening of Saturday, October 8, 2022. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 50 years, Betty M. Young, and his two sons, Robert L. Young, Jr., and James B. Young.
Bobby was born in Eutawville, SC on April 2, 1950, to Helen Youngs Clemons. He was raised by his great-grandmother, Mamie Wright, and grandmother, Mandlea "Bertha" Millings, alongside his cousins who were like siblings to him, Frank (Estelle) Gadson, Johnny (Elizabetha)Gadson, Willie Gadson (deceased), Abraham Gadson (deceased), Dorothy Gadson and Larry (Isabell) Gadson. He was baptized at the age of 12 at the St. James Baptist Church. He spoke fondly of attending St. James Elementary School and Robert High School where he played on the Varsity Basketball team.
After high school, Bobby came to NY to find work. In 1972, after hearing a radio advertisement to become an electrician through the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, NYC Local 3, he joined the union. He recently received an award for being a member for 50 years. While living in NYC, he reconnected with a fellow Robert's High classmate, Betty M. Wigfall. In August of the same year, in front of family and friends, they wed in Holy Matrimony. They celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this past August.
In 1988, Bobby became a Master Electrician and started an electrical contractor company with a close friend, Harold Deveaux. He successfully continued that business until his retirement in 2008.
After the untimely death of his second-born son, JasonLEvar Young, Bobby became a devoted and faithful member of the St. Luke Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee.
Bobby was known for being a hard worker who loved his family dearly. His most memorable moments were spent with his wife Betty, two sons, Robert Jr., and James, two daughters-in-law, Rebecca and Shauntele and six (6) grandchildren, Leah, Hannah, Robert Jr., II, Chloe, Ryleigh, and Brooklynn who will sorely miss him.
He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Spann (Levi), cousins, Teresa and Richard Wright, sisters and brother-in-law, Julia Mack, James Wigfall, Joseph Wigfall, Bobby Wigfall, Pearl (Harold) Deslandes, Ruth (Edward) Middleton, George Wigfall, Peter Wigfall, Johnny Lee (Sandirene) Thrower, Ernest (Naomi) Wigfall, and a host of family and friends of whom he will be dearly remembered by, including his family in the St. Luke Cathedral, as well as, the Long Island Church of Christ.
