Ben Haskell, Jr., was born August 26, 1921 in Charleston, South Carolina, to Ben and Diane Haskell, Sr. in Eutawville, South Carolina. He moved to Jersey City, New Jersey with his daughter when his health started to decline in 2015.
Ben accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Ben received his formal education in the Orangeburg County Public Schools in Eutawville, South Carolina. After graduation, he was drafted into the military and service from 1943 to 1946. Ben was employed with the Navy Yard for 15 years servicing faithfully in the Janitorial Department.
He developed a lifelong love of working for Christ. Ben serviced as the Sunday’s School Superintendent for many years and often times he would walk to church. Ben lived by the motto “Thank God for Another Day.” He had a charming way of entertaining, empowering, and making those who he came in contact with smile.
Ben Haskell, Jr. departed this life on Thursday, April 5, 2018. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Ben and Diane Haskell, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted and loving daughter, Diane Gadson of Jersey City, NJ; two grandchildren, Nyeesha Boland-Ali of Jersey City, NJ and Stephen R. Boland of Newark, NJ; two great-grandchildren, Saniya R. Boland and Javian R. Boland both of Columbia, SC; one brother, Leroy Haskell of Eutawville, SC; one nephew, Richard (Hattie) Haskell of Eutawville, SC; one niece Gloria (Earnest) Simmons of Eutawville, SC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
