" The LORD is my light and my salvation whom; shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall i be afraid?
Words cannot convey the depths of sorrow we feel upon the passing of our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.
Ms. Althea Townsend, the daughter of the late Mr. Jefferson Townsend and the late Mrs. Iva Lisbon Townsend was born on Wadmalaw Island, and raised in Holly Hill, South Carolina by her aunt, the late Ms. Olive B. Lisbon. She departed this life on Saturday, January 30, 2021.
While we rejoice that she has entered into the presence of out Lord, there is now an emptiness in our own lives that we mourn. Tine may ease the pain of our grief, but it will never diminish the void that remains in our hearts from her absence.
Althea was educated in the public schools of Charleston and Orangeburg counties. She attended the Holly Hill Rosenwald School and was a 1953 graduate of Roberts High School. She also attended Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina.
As a young child, Althea attended Jerusalem African Methodist Church on Wadlamaw Island. She later joined Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Holly Hill, South Carolina. She was an active member of the Women's Missionary Society and Stewardess Board No. 1. She also served faithfully and tirelessly with the Meals On Wheels Outreach Ministry until her health failed.
