Pernell L. Smith was born on September 22, 1923 in Eutawville, South Carolina to the late Daisy Clark James, and Jeffery James Sr. (Sonny). Pernell entered in eternal rest on the night of Monday May 1, 2018 after a brief illness.
Pernell found Christ at an early age and attended both Catholic and Baptist Churches.
In the 1960’s Pernell was joined in holy matrimony to the late John Smith. Pernell was employed by the Eire County Medical Center of Buffalo New York for many years. Pernell was such an affectionate person and a mother to everyone, you could count on her for a hug and a helping hand. Pernell was a stylish woman always well dressed. Pernell had a passion for music her favorite artist was Nat King Cole. Another greatest pastime was sitting in her favorite chair watching Family Feud.
One of Pernell’s biggest accomplishments was in 2008 where she attended the inauguration for our 44th President, in Washington DC for President Obama. “In my life time I never would think that I would see a Black President.”
Pernell was preceded in death by her sisters, Annie Bell (Ernest) Neal and Rosa Mae (Roosevelt) Dunbar and her brothers, Jimmy James, Hoyt (Odell) James, and Joseph James.
Pernell leaves to cherish her memory: two brothers, Jeffery James Jr. and Harold (Carolyn) James; cousin, David (Ora) Green; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
