Nehemiah Nelson Obituary

Nehemiah Nelson was born to the late Lawton and Sadie Nelson on January 10, 1952 in Cross, South Carolina.

He grew up in Cross and attended Central High School where he was a drummer in the school marching band. He graduated in 1969 and continued his education at Denmark and Trident Technical Schools majoring in Electrical Engineering.

Nehemiah was baptized at Jerusalem United Methodist Church at an early age. He participated in the youth group as a lead singer (The Five Bright Stars) their signature song was, "I'm A Pilgrim".

He enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, and hogs. He loved his side kick (Jake) his dog. He was called by many names (Mr. Myer, Myer, Zeke, Bishop, OG, and Cuzo). He enjoyed life and lived his life. He had a big and giving heart. He loved telling jokes under the big oak tree in his yard named (Mr. Myer and Tim Resort Park). He was just our handyman.

He is preceded in death by his son, Timothy Nelson; and three brothers, Julius Nelson, Lewis Nelson, and Alphonso Nelson.

Nehemiah leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Jane; his children, Samantha (James) Grant-Grant of North Charleston, SC, Derrick Jerrod (Kimberly) Nelson of Ladson, SC, and Gemayle Deon (Anika) Nelson of Goose Creek, SC; siblings; Betty (Tommy) Yeadon, Eliza (Joseph) Ferguson, Daisy (Roy) Century, Rev. Lawton Nelson, Jr., and Harold (Isabelle) Warren; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild; father-in-law, James Johnson, Sr.; sisters-in-law, Donna Johnson, Betty Buttons, and Ruth (Jerome) Baker; brother-in-law, James Johnson, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
