McKinley Washington Obituary

McKinley Washington was born January 31, 1950 in Eutawville, South Carolina to the late Tommie Lee Washington and the late Clara Bell Calhoun Washington. Kinley departed this life on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Jersey City Medical Center, in Jersey City, New Jersey.

He was educated in the Orangeburg County Public Schools, and he enjoyed a close relationship with his family as one of six children.

He was affectionately known in Eutawville as “Kinley”, and in New York & New Jersey they called him “Wash.” After moving to New York in 1967, he was employed in the Facilities Department at White Plains Hospital and later as an Assembler at General Motors.

In 1972, he met and married the love of his life, Ms. Gail Williams, and their union was blessed with three children: Vanessa, Garrett, and Shanta.  He later relocated to NJ in 1985 to be near his younger brother Lil Jr., and they became inseparable.

McKinley Washington was also preceded in death by his youngest brother Franklin Washington, in 2008.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: one son, Garrett Washington, Sr. of White Plains, NY; two daughters, Vanessa Williams (Bradley) of Peekskill, NY and Shanta Washington of Columbia, SC; six grandchildren, Garrett Washington, Jr., Jarel Washington, Jourdan Washington, (mother, Celeste Hill), Lovelle Washington, Sr. (Julie), Rashad Roberson, and Michael Murray; one great-grandson, Lovelle Washington, Jr;  two brothers, Robert Lee Washington of White Plains, NY and Tommie Lee Washington, Jr. of Jersey City, NJ; two sisters, Victory Washington of Columbia, SC and Jessie M. Washington of Eutawville, SC; two aunts, Evelyn Howell and Ida Mae Washington of White Plains, NY; one uncle, David “Ora” Green of Buffalo, NY; three sisters-in-law, Shelly Washington of Jersey City, NJ, Carolyn Washington of White Plains, NY, and Glenda Stroud of Opelika, AL; a special friend Vanessa of Jersey City, NJ, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to mention.
