Joseph Murray Obituary

Joseph Murray was born November 26, 1927 in Eutawville, South Carolina.  He was the youngest son of the late Reverend Fred      Murray and Nellie (Green) Murray.   He attended the local public schools and was raised in a loving home with his seven  siblings: Isaac, Clarence, Freddie Jr, Nellie, Asalee, Lizzie and Mary.

At an early age Joseph set out to find new opportunities.  He traveled with a local Circus for many years; and enjoyed sharing  his very  interesting experiences. He joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life and to this union his daughter Josephine was born.  Upon the death of his first wife, Joseph later settled in Columbia where he met his second wife Estell.  Both wives preceded him in death.

He  worked as a groundskeeper and did landscaping for the City of  Columbia as well as independently until his retirement.

In addition to both parents, Joseph is  preceded in death by  a cherished nephew, Daniel Green of Holly Hill, nephew Isaac Murray of Columbia as well as six of his seven siblings. His youngest sister Mary  resides in New York.

Joseph Murray affectionately known as “Cool Uncle Joe”, leaves to cherish his memory a daughter Josephine, his  sister, Mary Elmore , a devoted niece, Betty Ann/Mary E. to whom he entrusted his care,   nieces Hannah Jenkins  and Alice Davis both of New York ,  nephews Rev. Franklin Murray of  Massachusetts and Rev. Abraham Murray of South Carolina,  a host of other nieces, nephews,  grand nieces, grand nephews, and relatives.

Joseph embraced and enjoyed the friendships  he shared  with his Columbia  neighbors and friends at the Wardlaw.

To God Be The Glory.
