The final chapter of Eartha Lee Gethers, affectionately known as “Dooda,” was written on Saturday, June 30, 2018 when God, in his infinite wisdom and mercy, gently closed her eyes and received her into eternal life. Eartha L. Gethers was born July 31, 1920 in Eutawville, South Carolina to the late Eddie and Mary Gethers.
She received her education in the South Carolina Public Schools. She was a graduate of Roberts High School, Class of 1973. She worked as a cook for the Gillard Public School for many years. She was a member of Silas United Methodist Church, where she was affiliated with the Senior Choir, the Missionary Board, the United Methodist Women, the Willing Workers and she also served as a Sunday School Teacher.
She was blessed with 5 children: Esaw Gethers, Rebecca Nelson and Truman Washington. Two children, Mary Broughton and Edward Gethers; three brothers, Ancil Gathers, Wesley Gathers, and Frank Washington; two sisters, Annie Brown and Rebecca Wigfall; one grandson, Fredrick Broughton; and one great-grandchild, Kuamel Gathers all preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memories; two sons, Esaw (Rosanna) Gethers of Cross, SC and Truman (Dr. Bertha) Washington, of St. Stephen, SC; one daughter, Rebecca (George Jr.) Nelson of Patterson, NJ; two grandsons that she raised in the home, Eddie (Gracie) Gathers of Eutawville, SC and Derrick (Kim) Broughton of Santee, SC; two Goddaughters, Eva Gilbert and Estelle Mitchum Williams; a host of grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; two brothers, Julius P. Gathers, Sr. and Rev. Paul Gathers both of Eutawville, SC. She also leaves a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, special friends and her Pastor and church family.

special thank you to nieces, Willa Mae Halls, Gracie Young, Catherine John
