Bernie Richardson Obituary

Bernie Richardson was born to the late Lillie M. Richardson and Abie Junious on April 15, 1937 and he departed this life on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 5:00 a.m.

Bernie completed his education from Scotts Branch High School and then relocated to New York City where he worked as a short-order cook for many years in the essence of Penn Station, drawing many regular customers. In his later years, he worked in maintenance/housekeeping until he relocated to South Carolina in 1992 and continued working in the maintenance/housekeeping area in the nursing home, until he retired.

Bernie attended Liberty Hill AME Church from an early age and during the years he found the Lord and accepted him as his Lord and Savior. In years to come, after graduating high school, he relocated to New York City joining the Greater File Chapel Baptist Church, until relocating back to Summerton, South Carolina in 1992 joining the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church.

In 1961, Bernie found a good thing! Just as the Bible states in Proverbs 18:22, “he who finds a wife, finds a good thing.” Bernie found Lula M. Bradley, dating her for 2 years and married her on July 7, 1963 resulting in 54 years of wedded bliss, resulting in three children, Barbara Bradley Jarvis, Annette Richardson, and preceding him in death, Bernard Richardson in 1990.

Bernie took a liking to planting and growing well liked foods, resulting in him and his wife Lula M. Richardson becoming certified by the state and licensed sellers at the Farmers Market, selling vegetables and baked goods. Bernie was already preparing for this year's market, but God had other plans for him. Jeremiah 29:11, “for I know the plans, I have for you.”

Bernie was well loved by many. He had a sense of humor you had to understand, kind but bold, but a gentle soul, who loved his nieces and nephews with all his heart and they loved him the same. It was just something about his spirit or maybe simply the candy and goodies he would always give or sneak to them. They all loved, “Uncle Bernie.”

Bernie leaves to cherish precious memories: his wife Lula M. Richardson of Summerton, SC; two daughters, Barbara Jarvis (Sylvester) of New York City and Annette Richardson (fiance-Anthony Hannah) of Bronx, NY; five sisters, Sarah Sumpter of New York City, Patricia Shaw (Daniel) of Ellicott City, MD, Paulette Shorts (Charles) of Reisterstown, MD, Margaret Junious of Gwynn Oak, MD, and Lorraine Junious of Ellicott City, MD; one sister-in-law, Carrie Harris of New York; one brother-in-law Louis Bradley of South Carolina; three granddaughters, Tiffany Richardson Willis (Conley Willis) of Garnerville, NY, Sylbara Jarvis of PA, and Wendy Jarvis of New York City; two great-granddaughters, Aniyah Willis and Tiyonah Willis; four great-grandsons, Sylrein Jarvis, Joshua Figuenoa, Jeremiah Willis, and Jaden Jarvis-Hillare; his “man's best friend,” AXEL, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends
